Im thinking about takeing Shidokan and wanted to know what it was all about? Is it more like a kickboxing style becasue i know the teacher was a kickboxing champ. Is it a very affective MA.|||They are different styles.
Shidokan was founded by Yoshiji Soeno, he trained kyokushin karate under the Mas Oyama. Soeno was called %26quot;the brave tiger of kyokushin%26quot;, and the character Ryu from the street fighter series is loosely based on him.
Yoshiji Soeno founded Shidokan karate, which is called %26quot;the triathlon of martial arts%26quot; , as it has aspects of kyokushin karate, muay thai, and grappling resembling modern MMA.
Shidokan karatekas are very well-rounded, as they learn great striking (kyokushin style bare-knuckle), and muay thai, and grappling that%26#039;s very much like today%26#039;s MMA.
Tournaments are extremely tough, the first round is full contact karate (just like kyokushin), the second round is muay thai rules (with a 2 second clinch limit), and the 3rd round is MMA rules. You fight 2-3 opponents the same night.
I%26#039;d highly recommend Shidokan karate, several of my current and former instructors have backgrounds in Shidokan and they are very good fighters.|||God. Frank for the win!!!!
I%26#039;ve never heard of %26quot;American Karate%26quot; though. Are you talking about Kenpo Karate? That%26#039;s also a good system, but they would more than likely not spar like shidokan.
