How soon can a kid start karate classes?

can my three year old cousin start karate classes? i was thinking of getting him classes for christmas.he is into all the ninja stuff doing his moves lol i figured it would be good for him to apply it..not sure how old you have to be|||Generally speaking, a 3-year old boy is not mature enough to start training in martial arts. I teach a class with 4, four-year old boys and I think there are times they aren%26#039;t even mature enough. They%26#039;ve been with me for 3 months and they are starting to get ahold of their requirements, but it is sometimes still pulling teeth to keep them focused for even the 20 minutes I have them.

That said, some schools allow 3-year old children. Some do not (we don%26#039;t). Check out the school you want to sign them up for. Watch the classes so that you know you%26#039;re not just paying for a glorified daycare/gym class. Make sure they are being taught at least the basics of what someone even 5 years older is learning.||| Every child is different ( physically ) under 6 yrs, can be injured

Easily ! Most any School will take new students, Not enough of

them are concerned of injuries ! ( just the classes Paid for ! )

having your three year old ( cousin) practise by himself, is much

different from an Opponent Attacking him ! These %26quot;kids%26quot; are taught

Very early today, to be Aggresive !

Suggestion : Have your family doctor, give the OK, for Safety !

Suggestion : If the child is Badly Injured, the School possibly will

Not Protect him ! it is best to have some form of Life Insurance to

Protect him ! You do Not want to Experience the dark side of this

Scenario ! |||i%26#039;m 14

yes, he can start right now! (I regret starting at the late age of 12)

But you should tell him:

-never to tell others outside his class about his skills (seen the bad results of this before)

-to not go challenging his friends to a fight

- to be not be brass and bold because of this skill

-tell him that he will not learn how to use flying kicks and such on his first class

-weapon training is useless

-to recognize the difference between the TV and true karate

Also, he might quit martial arts when he%26#039;s 5 probably because he will be dissappointed that he doesn%26#039;t learn to leap 15 feet high and walk on walls, so encouragge him whenever you can|||The youngest I%26#039;ve taught is 4 and that is the %26quot;Groundhog Day%26quot; class. It doesn%26#039;t matter how many months they%26#039;ve trained it always seems like it%26#039;s their first class.

Typically my school will start at 5 and that%26#039;s even young for some kids. If they don%26#039;t have impulse control or an attention span longer than a Sponge Bob cartoon they have problems. I%26#039;ve had some great 5 year olds and others that make me want to go beat on a heavy bag after class.

No doubt, you will find some school willing to take your money to train a 3 year old. However, I recommend you wait a couple of years. Get him into a swim school instead. That%26#039;s a skill every kid could use.|||I think three is way too young. I had a little kickers class once and found the attention spaqn for those kids four to five was not sufficient to stay the least. I now only take seven and up and some of the seven year olds leave something to be desired.|||I would probably wait till he%26#039;s five or six. If he follows directions well and listens to what people instruct him to do then fine 3 works the sooner the better he%26#039;ll good when he%26#039;s older. But if he still acts like a little baby give it a good 2-3 more years|||As early as you want him too. Most places will start them around 5 - 6 years old. Honestly, I would wait and see how long this phase last. Most kids when you but them in it and it isn%26#039;t for fun anymore, then they loose interest. Best of luck|||There%26#039;s a 3 year old in our dojo, but it%26#039;s a very small kids class. THere%26#039;s only two of them (a 3 and a 4 year old). THey both seem to be doing ok, so I%26#039;d say go for it|||3 is the limit so it%26#039;s okay i suppose, it really depends on the maturity of the child.

Check if they have a kid program.|||3 is young i watched a kids class and 5 year olds seem like nightmares for the instructors (can only imagine 3)|||It would be a lot easier You were the trainer |||3 is to young 4 -5 minimum
