i was just wondering what ELSE does karate do? i heard it makes your anger go away, you start to become more open and optional.. tell me what else it does becuz i am going to start karate.. please help!! i need to know if it helps with angry problems|||You get out of it what you put into it, simple as that. It takes discipline to stick with, and this discipline can help you control your temper. You learn to treat your fellow students with respect. You learn to hone your willpower by pushing yourself harder. But the fact is that all this stuff is inside you already, it just needs a place to go. To use an metaphor, your discipline, willpower, respect, and overall character is lightening, and karate is a lightening rod.|||%26quot;The ultimate aim of karate-do lies not in victory or defeat,
but in the perfection one%26#039;s character.%26quot; - Gichin Funakoshi
Modern karate is often taught as a %26quot;do.%26quot; (Pronounced %26quot;doe%26quot;, literally meaning %26quot;way%26quot;. Do implies a spiritual or philosophical aspect and is also found in judo (%26quot;Gentle way%26quot;), aikido (%26quot;Way of Harmonizing with Energy%26quot;) and non-martial pursuits, such as chado (%26quot;Way of Tea%26quot;)
Your study of karate becomes a microcosm of your life. If you have anger issues in general, those issues will come up during your training. If you can learn to control your anger in the dojo, you should find it easier to control them outside the dojo.
This philosophical aspect will not be emphasized in all schools. Try classes at several different schools, then choose the school where you feel most comfortable.
