I want to get a good thank-you gift for my karate instructor but I just don%26#039;t have a clue on what to get him. Can anyone help me out?|||Lots of bricks for him to break. Just Joking.
Try a gift card or a martial arts movie DVD.|||If you don%26#039;t much about this sensei on a personal level you may want to do something creative using Japan as your inspiration. You said %26quot;Karate%26quot; so I%26#039;m assuming it truly is Karate (vs. Kung Fu or Tae Kwon Do and so on...). Think Zen Gardens, Bonsai plants or small token, something unique. Visit stores in Asian markets and look for something that you may not be able to find in a normal mall or outlet.
My favorite story is about a boy who walks half a day%26#039;s length down the coast from his village to collect a sea shell as a gift for his teacher, then walks back another half day%26#039;s length. When his teacher received the shell the student was told %26quot;You could have gotten the same shell from the beach near our village.%26quot; and the student replied %26quot;But the journey was part of the gift.%26quot;|||Bard Noir- that was PERFECT!!!
It truly is about the thought behind it. However, I personally enjoy books about Martial Arts (even something other than Karate). You may wanna check how extensive his library is though. Also, something home made is always nice...if you do needlepoint or cross-stitch or something like that, a gift should be easy. Just make something Karate oriented like a cross-stitch picture of the art%26#039;s symbol (the fist for Goju-Ryu, tiger in the circle for Shotokan, etc). Also, you cannot underestimate the value of a good batch of homemade cookies, brownies, etc :-)
