How do i develop faster punches for karate sparring and real fighting?

I%26#039;d like to know how to make my punches faster, is it all about the muscles and nothing but the muscles? (would just doing up to 300 pushups each day get me that far?)|||get weights for your wrists and practice with them on.|||NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER

use wrist weights when you are practicing your punches as it will screw up your timing/form/joints and if you screw up your shoulders you aren%26#039;t going anywhere in the fighting world

If you have a partner that knows how to punch get him to hold focus mits for you and practice drills....shadowbox...use the reflex ball/speed bag/ NEVER use wrist weights that is by far the WORST advice you%26#039;ll ever receive

Go find a boxing/kickboxing class and take some lessons|||use a speedbag. also try shadow boxing with small jogging weights.|||Try using some small weights like the small dumbbells in aerobics and gradually work your way up in weight, or try a resistance-weight system. Whichever you try just continue doing your basics with as much repetition as possible.

Also look at different styles and techniques....the punches in the isshinryu style are good ones.|||The hardest thing to do is to %26quot;relax%26quot;. Once you are telling yourself to do it. . .you%26#039;re already in the wrong. It%26#039;s a state of mind that takes a while for any martial artist to know. I always say: %26quot;In the middle of chaos, when you remain calm, that is where you learn the most about yourself.%26quot;

The point of impact is when you should tighten everything. You can practice with weighted gloves, small dumbells, etc. Then you can shadow box. Putting emphasis on relaxing your shoulders. You can even bob them up and down like Muay Thai and get them relaxed that way. Practice, practice, practice.|||You have to develop your fast twitch muscle fibers, and explosiveness. If you are using weights you must lower the weight and concentrate on your pushing exercises. Lower the weight and then put everything into the pushing phase of the exercise. So do presses for shoulders and chest and tricep movements. Also do your Squats and spring upwards at the bottom. Do your pulling exercises the next day and then rest or go out and do your aerobic exercises, running and bicycling. But the most important is your pushing exercises.|||my husband does karate and also self defence he suggests getting some wrist weights and doing punching for a couple of weeks using these then when taking them off u will find that as the weight is not there anymore u will hit faster also relax all the muscles in your arms as you punch and if you want to make them more powerful learn to use your hips more too. hope this helps|||I enjoy just holding a pair of weights in my hands and punching slowly in my stance.|||Use wrist weights when practicing punching and perform a quick set of 20 push ups before hitting the bag. What this does is make your arms feel heavier stimulating the effects adrenaline plays on the body when in an altercation. Also focus on your retraction of the punch instead of how fast the punch hits the target (think the opposite). All these techniques can be implimented with your kicks also.|||punch, punch, punch, for speed, for power punch a heavy bag|||Talk to your Sensai. He/she should be able to give you the right advice since it%26#039;s a combination of muscle development and mental awareness.|||Tao of zenben is on the right track.. You can improve your punch speed by 25% immedialtely (less for experienced strikers to be fair) by simply employing %26quot;recoil%26quot;. You limbs and joints have a built in safety mechanism which is to stop over extending or %26quot;locking out%26quot; and this mechanism automatically slows the punch as your arm reaches near full extension. If you mentally decide to recoil your punch (which also gets your hands back where they can be useful too) you over-ride that safety mechanism and will put up to 30% more speed in your strike immediately. The thing to remember is not to recoil the punch from the %26quot;surface%26quot; of the skin but plan the recoil from say 6 inches beyond the target. That and relaxed thru the bosy, tensing body muscles on delivery will do the trick.
