also, can you start taking karate when you are 18? would you be in a class with kids, or do they have adult karate classes?|||It depends on the Dojo and the area of the country your in. If you go to a Dojo with a Japanese instructor then you will pay more but it%26#039;s usually worth it. What you don%26#039;t want to do is to take Karate form a coockie cuttter club or an %26quot;American Karate%26quot; club. The tradition behind Karate needs to be there. Don%26#039;t go to a club thats not affiliated with a club or style in Japan. If they can%26#039;t affiliate themselves with a Japanese club then they are not teaching Karate.
Karate lessons could cost anywhere from $50 to $150 a month. I think $75-$90 is reasonable. Don%26#039;t go to a place that makes you sign up for a year in advance or promises you a black belt in less then three years.
Go and look at some clubs and pick the most interesting one.
Have Fun!|||depends on the school and how often you go, if you are 18 you will be with the adults. Most schools offer a free week or two trail so look around for one that does so you can see if you like it first.|||yea they hav adult classes about 100 dollaz|||Have you checked your local YMCA? some of them do those kind of classes and they might be cheaper.|||i thnik $70|||Cost depends on where you live and the specific school. I pay about $140 per month now, but I used to go to a school where I paid about $380 per month. Some schools are less than what I pay now, but very few are more than my previous school.
And you%26#039;d probably be in the adult class. Definitely start now. You%26#039;ll regret it if you don%26#039;t. I started at age 28! I love it and expect to get my black belt in about 1.5 years. Our instructor started at about your age and he%26#039;s a fourth degree black belt now. He%26#039;s only in his mid 30s. Some of the greatest martial artists started as teens!
I had a chance to start karate as a 5 or 6 year old but I punked out then. I SERIOUSLY regret it.
Best,
G|||you should be going to adults class, im 15 and i go to adults class, anyways u shouldnt be paying more than a $80 a month, it all depends, i take karate 2 hours a week and pay $40 a month|||In NYC I paid about $125 for unlimited Hapkido training. Classes ran from about 7am to about 10pm every hour.
In Vegas I now pay $75 for Aikido and Hapkido training...3 hours Hapkido and 6 hours of Aikido at night, plus 6 hours during the day.
Anything less than 4 hours a week is not worth while (Hapkido and Aikido are closely linked so for $75 I get solid practice for about 10 hours a week).
Avoid USSD and other McDojos
Dont take a kids class....must be adult class as most kids classes are dumbed down. My 10 yr old and 13 yr old take adult classes with slight modifications for their techniques. But we also came from NY where a 10 yr old is not like west coast 10 yr olds.|||I don%26#039;t Know about karate but to take ninjitsu at the bujinkan dojo is around 25$ a month. They also teach private lessons that are i think double but you can split the bill if you can find someone to take the class with you. The bujinkan is an international school i think but you can find them all over the US. They will also move at the students ability%26#039;s so you may advance faster if you are able to catch on fast. One of the top martial artist in the US is a practitioner of ninjitsu and TKD. Ninjitsu is a lot more interesting to learn than karate. when i was a kid i was a karate student, when i tried ninjitsu i stopped taking karate because it became standard. Ninjitsu was a variate of Taijutsu, Bojutsu, and shurikenjutsu among a few of the things tough. I have listed a site that sells professional grade authentic ninpo and other martial arts weapons. They will also make speacial request like a live kunai.
