Whats the differnce between Karate and Tai Kwon Do?

Im intrested in takeing some form of martial art and would like to know the differnce between karate and Tai Kwon Do. Could someone pelase explain the differnce to me.|||HI, The major differences are pretty obvious, one is Korean and the other Japanese, but TKD makes use of some devastating kicking techniques and relies on athletic ability a lot, as you will have techniques that are based on your agility in the air.

Karate is also divided into many styles, but was originally called %26quot; the way of the empty hand%26quot; Karate concentrates on the hand techniques a lot during the basics, but also utilizes the more basic, non aerobatic kicks in its forms. Personal preference will dictate which you will enjoy more, but you may also consider the question as to how close is the nearest training facility and are you doing martial arts for fitness, fun or are you going to dedicate yourself to learning as much as possible and compete? These are questions only you can answer when you see what is involved. Also, please visit and research the places near to you and make sure the instructors are well known and have the credentials!|||The comment above is mostly true about WTF TKD. ITF TKD is actually more like Karate in its balance of hand and leg techniques. Both are great Martial Arts and I would agree concentrate more on the quality of the school and instructor as well as convenience then a particular style strength/weakness.

The only thing you are likely to defend with any MA is your waistline from the refrigerator, so being happy with the school you are at and the work out you are getting is really the most important thing.
