Karate??????????

So I think i will do karate but what are the different types of karate which are easier to learn? Is 17 to late to start?|||Last question 1st. I started Tae Kwon Do at age 44. Next question.

It depends on what you mean by Karate. Do you specifically mean those styles that use that name? They are from Okinawa %26amp; Japan. Typically, Okinawan styles (Gojoryu, Shorin Ryu %26amp; Ishin Ryu) emphasize hand techniques. Japanese styles (Shotokan, Kempo) use about equal hand %26amp; foot techniques.

If you are using %26quot;Karate%26quot; to mean any martial art that emphasizes strikes, you have to include Shaolin Boxing, which is roughly split into northern %26amp; southern. Southern style emphasizes hand techniques (It%26#039;s where the Okinawans got their style). Northern is more like Tae Kwon Do %26amp; Tang Soo Do which are Korean. You will get arguments as to who 1st introduced the emphasis on kicking, but there is no denying that both Noerthern Shaolin %26amp; the Korean arts of TKD %26amp; TSD (there is very little difference) use a lot of kicks. Find a good instructor in a styls that suits you.|||I DO KARATE SO HERES ADVICE yes its a little late 4 u 2 start karate u r really sponse to start at 6-13

and there almost all the same your a white belt if u join so they will start off easy but then they get tough so just join its good self defense and if u can do it in school Report Abuse
|||dont talk about it get out there try a few.|||There is no %26quot;Easy%26quot; Martial Arts discipline to learn; it all takes a lot of time and effort to learn it, not to mention a lot of trial and error, and even after attaining Blackbelt Status, you%26#039;ll never master everything Martial Arts has to offer. it%26#039;s just like learning to walk a totally different way from the way you walk now.

what you have to do is find a discipline that fits the criteria for what you want to get out of it, and whether or not you feel comfortable with the instructor(s) and their teaching style.

and no 17 is not too late to start learning a Martial Art. Though now is the time when you should put more emphasis and focus on what kinda secondary education you wanna go for (ie college or community colleges you want to go to.) when you graduate High school (I%26#039;m assuming of course that you are in high school and not a parent asking about enrolling a 17yr old in a MA class)

As yupchagee said, he started in his 40%26#039;s and is an instructor now, and several people even older than that are taking up Martial Arts. I knew a guy who was well into his 50%26#039;s when he began Martial Arts and accomplished quite a bit.|||17 is a great age to start. Call several schools in your area and set up a time to visit. You want to watch some classes and then participate in one BEFORE you make a decision to sign up. If they won%26#039;t let you do that, then you don%26#039;t need them. Check as many as you can and you%26#039;ll find the one that is right for you. Good luck!|||It%26#039;s never too late to start. In my Kung Fu class people start as late as in their 40s and even 50s.|||TaeKwonDo is the awesome!!!! Believe me I have been doing TaekwonDo since I was little now im in my 20%26#039;s %26amp; still doing it as I love it so much, not only that its great self defence. I%26#039;ve earned a really higher up belt as I%26#039;ve become really good at it.|||I don%26#039;t know which is easier to learn, but I take TaeKwonDo, and I love it so much. It%26#039;s fun, and it can be a little challenging, but that%26#039;s OK!!! I don%26#039;t think 17 is to late to start, I%26#039;m 17 and I just started like 4 months ago. Besides there are a lot of older people there that are just starting like in there late 20%26#039;s and so on, so 17 is OK!!!|||It is never to late to start.

Do not try to find a good style, it is much more productive to find a good school instead. Visit all your choices. Ask questions. Look for a clean school with nice people. Trace the lineage.

Tip:

Never pay for a rank test and never sign a contract|||Visit your local library and look it up.

17 is a good age to start.

Nothing that has value is easy to study. Notice I did not use the word learn. In M/A it%26#039;s the journey not the destination.|||Yeah 17 is a good age to start because then you can pick up on the techniques and the purpose for using them a lot faster then someone who%26#039;s 7 or 8. As for the different styles i don%26#039;t know much about that, but i take American karate which teaches a combination of three different styles. Japanese, Korean, and Texas Style Boxing. we also teach some grappling techniques. This kind would be great to start out with because then you can learn a little bit of a few styles and see what style you like best. Hope this helps and good luck.|||There are over 500 different versions of martial arts- Find one that suits you. I started at age 18 and have done quite well. I am now 56 and as limber as i was at age 20. Find an instructor who is fit- Imean- if he can%26#039;t even touch his own toes or loses his breath at 30 jumping jaacks- I wouldn%26#039;t want to learn from him. If he tosses the word master around a lot- look eslewhere. No legit martial arts master calls himself such- his students do out of respect. For all instructors are also students.
